Will Townend †

Will TownendIn April we received the very sad news that Lieutenant Colonel Will Townend, one of Anglia's most experienced guides passed away after a battle against cancer. Will worked with Anglia for over 13 years and as such will be known to many of you. Throughout the time he worked with us Will retained an unrivalled enthusiasm for military history and was as comfortable walking the Somme with a school party as he was leading a battlefield tour of Iraq for senior Officers.

Will served in the Royal Artillery for 32 years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He had operational experience in the Falklands War, Northern Ireland and Iraq. He was a graduate of University College London with a BA in Geography and an MA in Museum Studies. He was a Trustee of the Royal Artillery Historical Trust and was Secretary of the Royal Artillery Historical Society and was for a time curator of the Royal Artillery Museum at Woolwich. Will was also a founder member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides.

Will's loss will be keenly felt by all who knew him, the customers he worked with and equally by his fellow guides, for whom he was always a fount of knowledge which he was ever willing to share. It was a pleasure having had the opportunity to know and work with him.
