Much has recently been written about
the Christmas Truce 1914. It was not a
myth, it actually happened. All along
stretches of the Western Front for a
moment in time men forgot that they
were fighting each other and
recognised their common humanity,
and the true spirit of Christmas.
Men crossed into No Mans Land and exchanged small gifts and shared food and showed each other photographs of their loved ones. One British Officer was actually invited to a formal dinner with champagne and the finest wines by his German counterparts! Along most of the line, the guns fell silent for the first time since the war started.
Anglia Battlefield Tours has created a unique experience for schools, and has turned it into one of its most popular tours. Using a professional actor and other guides dressed in period uniforms of the time we re-create that wonderful moment in history when the war actually stopped. In the first two weeks of December 2007 we took over 30 schools on this wonderful tour that is such a departure from anything else you would ever have done.
You are advised to book early to enjoy this incredible experience unique to Anglia Battlefield Tours.
There will be a free Chocolate Advent Calendar for every student and a box of chocolates for each teacher on the tour for Christmas. To take advantage on this offer, get in touch with us now.
Many thanks to the participating chocolate shops De Groote Leonidas in Ypres.
