Anglia is always looking for exceptionally high quality guides both male and female. Most of our guides come from a Services background, but this is not essential. What is essential is an ability to interact and engage with your audience of (in the main) young people from diverse backgrounds with confidence and flair - remember, you are a storyteller! This makes good teachers particularly suitable as guides for Anglia. The process is a demanding one, in that I will interview every guide personally and at some length. Regardless of background and experience all new guides start on our WW1 battlefield tours. If all goes well, you will be invited to attend a two day Somme and Ypres tour with two experienced guides. You will have been supplied with comprehensive background notes, which we expect you to have read thoroughly. You do not get paid for this and it is purely for you (and us) to decide if you are suitable guide material. If you are successful at this stage, we will send you on another two day tour, again with experienced guides but this time you will be expected to run two or three Stands during the tour, which will be critiqued by the lead guide. You will get half pay for this trip. Your guides will then discuss the tour with me in detail and your overall performance. If you reach the required high standard we set then you will be taken on as a guide. Anglia does not employ guides full time and on completion of your training you will join our pool. We will supply you with items of corporate clothing that will be expected to wear. Guides wishing to extend their repertoire to other destinations that we cover are encouraged but the process is the same except that this time we pay you half pay on your preliminary visits! Training is ongoing and it will quickly become apparent that you are joining a large family organisation of guides and friends. Anglia holds a general guide meeting once a year, which you will be expected to attend and we have recently all enjoyed a Black Tie dinner at the Army and Navy Club in London. I look forward to hearing from you in due course.
